Swift explains Charleston vacation

When singer-songwriter Taylor Swift was spotted in Charleston last week, the big mystery was, why was she here?

On Aug. 16, when Swift was spotted on King Street and in Mount Pleasant, social media sites such as Twitter lit up with reports from people who had seen her, but no one had an explanation about the nature of her trip.

The mystery was solved Monday by the singer herself.

In a post on her own blog at connect.taylorswift.com, the Grammy winning country-pop artist said her trip to Charleston was a mini-vacation between engagements on her Speak Now tour.

She also posted 38 black-and-white photographs of herself and her friends around Charleston.

According to Swift, Charleston is one of the places she's always wanted to visit. She performed at the North Charleston Coliseum twice in 2007 as a warm-up act, and once in 2009 as a headliner. Perhaps she didn't get to see the town. Here is an excerpt from her post:

"We've been on the Speak Now Tour since February, and it occurred to me a few weeks ago that it would be so incredible to take a mini-vacation! I found a three day window in August and invited all the girls you see onstage (one fiddle player, one backup singer, two dancers, three aerialists) to go with me to one of the places on my list (this particular place was underlined, with stars drawn next to it, indicating that I reeeeally wanted to go there): Charleston, South Carolina."

The accompanying photographs show Swift and her friends at the beach, in and out of the water, dining at the Water's Edge restaurant on Shem Creek and touring the harbor on a boat.

She must have enjoyed her trip, because her caption for the last photo said, "Saying goodbye to the coolest three days ever."

During her visit, Swift attracted the most attention when she went shopping along King Street, within blocks of the College of Charleston campus, but there were no photos in Monday's blog post from the shopping trip.

Within a few hours of the original post on Swift's blog Monday, more than 200 people responded. Most fans said they were thankful for the photos. A couple said they were glad the singer had time for a mini- vacation.
